Genetics: The study of Heredity.
Heredity: The Passing on of traits from one generation to another.
Chromosome: Genetics material - found in the nucleus of cells, Come in pairs. - Human's Have 23 Pairs.
Allele: One of a pair of gens that code for the same trait.
Gene: The biological unit of a chromosome - codes for a specific trait. Each pair the same.
DNA: Deoxyribonucleic acid
Probability: The likelihood that something is going to happed - expressed as a ratio.
Genotype: The genes expressed as letters.
Phenotype: Physical expression of the genes ( traits, what it looks like.)
Dominant: The allele that is in control of the trait.
Reccesive: The allele that is expressed only when there is no chemical allele's.
Homozygous: allele's that are the same.
Heterozygous: Allele that are not the same.
Gegor Mendal: Father of genetics.
Laws of Genetics
Law of Independent Assortment: Each chromosome pair seperates independently of other pairs.
Law of Segregation: Chromosome pairs seperate of the offspring gets only one chromosome from each pair.
Law of Dominance: Dominant alleles/ genes prevent the expression of recessive alleles/ genes.
Punnett Square: Tool used to predict the outcome of crossing spicific genetics.
Purebred: Homozygous, genotype the same (BB, bb, TT, tt)
Hybred: Homozygous genotype ( Bb Tt Zz )
Sex-linked Traits: Those traits carried on the female X chromosome- males need only one allele to show traits, Females need both alleles to show the traits.
xx- Female
Xy- Male
